Question by jjr: I have a marantz SR-5001 I use for home theater….I want to hook my 5ch amp?
through the receiver how would I do this?
I have a 200 watt per channel Sherbourn Amp that I want to use and I wanted to upgrade to a Home Theater Pre Amp which were a lot more than I wanted to spend, so I bought a quality Home Theater Receiver to use as Pre Amp.

Question by yael_badash: when listenning to an audio cd on my DVD player (Toshiba sd-37vsr), my amp (Marantz sr-3001) goes into peak?
When I play an audio CD on my DVD player (Toshiba sd-37vsr), my amplifier (Marantz sr-3001) goes into peak. I can’t find a way to reduce the volume of the DVD player, is there any option to reduce the level so that the amp will not go into peak ??
Thank you

sometimes resistors wired in series into the ‘hot’/conductor
of your RCA leads-might help-not sure what value.
I would be interested to find out what caused this.
Dvd not in wrong sockets?RCA leads are ok?
There use to be attenuators that you set from Tandy/Dick Smith.
(This would save trial and error of finding resistance value)
Not owning the Marantz-nothing in a menu for reducing
input level?
Unfortunately,I cant think of anything else.

Question by tim: Is Marantz a high quality brand?
I have a laserdisc player that was a Christmas gift in the 90′s. It is Marantz brand. It’s always worked well. I was just curious if Marantz is in general a high quality brand like Pioneer since I hadn’t heard of it before.

Yes, they had been around for years making high-end equipment. Cannot swear for their latest offerings however for the consumer driven market, where they have a hard time competing with the Panasonics of the electronics world.

Well….
Over the years, Marantz has been the good amp for Bass/Midrange and has a good “reserve” of power……
Yamaha has been designed more for High Frequency response.
So…..what do you like in YOUR sound? More BASS or More Hi Frequency??
I like both…..
HOWEVER……The Yamaha has more power. 120W compared to the 90W in the Marantz….(conservative, remember the word “headroom”)
Does it matter? Only if you have a STADIUM-sized room.
Cost – Marantz wins there.
Features — Both Win there.
Now I know what you’re up against…..
So….this is what we do.
You purchase the Yamaha…..UNLESS you want a 0 TOY that you can’t afford to get BECAUSE YOU GOT THE YAMAHA!!
Like the Toshiba HD-DVD for 0 (HDA2)
You get what I mean by this?
Aw hell….Heads Yamaha, Tails Marantz
Believe me, this will DECIDE better than the two of us…..
And I’ll bet you’ll keep flipping that coin until “the one you REALLY want” Wins!
That’s how I make my decisions when it’s really really tight……
